How to Use a Reverse Bucket List for Manifesting Your Goals

What Is a Reverse Bucket List?

Many people have heard the idea of creating a "bucket list", which is when they write down everything they want to see, do, or have before they "kick the bucket", ie die. But fewer people have heard of a "reverse bucket list", which is essentially the opposite of a bucket list.

For a reverse bucket list, you write down a list of everything you have already seen, done, or been.

While a bucket list is "forward-thinking" in that you think about what goals you want to accomplish, a reverse bucket list is about reflecting on the goals you have already completed and celebrating them.

Why a Reverse Bucket List Is Great for Manifesting

Having a bucket list is wonderful in terms on the Law of Attraction because you are getting specific and clarifying to the Universe what it is that you would like to accomplish going forward. The ability to manifest, however, is based on being able to hold the vibration of "I get to accomplish all of my dreams."

And one of the easiest way to get into that vibration is to reflect on the times where you already have achieved what you want! By having gratitude and celebrating what you have already accomplished, you give yourself "proof" that you get to have what you want, making it easier to maintain the vibration that you will continue to manifest your dreams in the future.

A reverse bucket list can also be a great way of demonstrating to yourself your inner strength. If you have suffered a hardship, like illness or death of a loved one, a bad breakup, job loss, etc, writing down what you went through and how you got through it to be where you are today can be a helpful reminder of how strong you are and allow you to give yourself a little more credit on your ability to persevere through tough times.

How Many Things Should I List on My Reverse Bucket List?

There is no correct answer on this as it depends on what your goal is. Some people like to challenge themselves to write down 50 items, others like to write down as many as they can think of. I would recommend writing down as many things as it takes you to get into your desired mindset.

Chances are, the more you write down, the more vibrationally aligned thoughts will come to you so you will end up with a lot of things for your list!

Prompts for Your Reverse Bucket List

Listed below are several idea categories to help you get started on your reverse bucket list. I have listed the main categories, but if you want more ideas, asking friends and family or looking up "bucket list prompts" can give you more ideas as well!

Reverse Bucket List Prompts:

  • certifications like college degrees, passing exams, awards, etc.

  • trips you've taken

  • relationships you've cultivated, maintained or repaired

  • "big life events" like getting married or having children

  • work growth or opportunities

  • health like a fitness routine or acheived desired weight

  • challenges you have overcome

A good thing to remember is that reverse bucket list items don't have to be big, either. Just focusing on the simple things that you've achieved in your life can bring a lot of happiness and gratitude for what you have and have done.
